BORN AND RAISED IN MILWAUKEE, WI
Penelope has always been curious. As a kid, she was always trying to convince her friends to watch the behind-the-scenes disc of Finding Nemo at the slumber party. Since she started making stop-motion animated films and flip-books at just 9 years old, she has had a never-ending passion for the medium.
Fashion has also been a huge inspiration for her. Starting with her “fashion plates” kit as a child, now blossoming into a career in fashion-based illustration and animation. Her experience working at vintage stores and clothing boutiques directly influences her illustration style. Patterns, silhouettes, and color play a big role in her portfolio.
Penelope is currently working on pre-production for her next animated short film, painting murals, DJing on the weekends, and watching vhs tapes of her favorite music videos from the 80s.
PENELOPE RECEIVED A BFA IN ILLUSTRATION AND ANIMATION TRACK AT THE MILWAUKEE INSTITUTE OF ART AND DESIGN IN 2024.
SHE IS THE RECIPIENT OF THE MIAD PRESIDENTIAL SCHOLARSHIP, THE ALPHA LAMBDA DELTA AWARD, AS WELL AS BEING PLACED ON THE MIAD DEAN’S LIST FOR HER HIGH GRADE POINT AVERAGE IN 2020, 2021, 2022, AND 2023.
HER THESIS FILM PENELOPE BOWLES X UNFINISHED LEGACY WAS A PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN HER BRAND AND UNFINISHED LEGACY RESULTING IN A SOLO GALLERY SHOW(INCLUDING AN EXCLUSIVE LINE OF T-SHIRTS) IN STORE. SHE NOW WORKS FREELANCE FOR A VARIETY OF PROJECTS. HER CLIENTS INCLUDE REGINALD BAYLOR STUDIO, ALIVE AND FINE, MAN-HATING LESBIANS, CACTUS CLUB, AND MORE.
